City Business
City Council Meetings City Council meetings are held the first Monday of each month (except in the event of a legal holiday falling on that date when it moves to the 2nd Monday). All meetings are held at City Hall in the Community Center and begin at 6:00 p.m.
Building Permits City residents and property owners in Harwood’s extraterritorial area can download a building permit application from this website or obtain one from the City office.
Water/Sewer/Waste Bills The “net” charge is due by the 10th of each month. After that date, the “gross” total is due, which reflects a computer generated 10% late fee that is attached to your balance. The $5 monthly “surcharge” is used to supplement Harwood clean-up days and for streets (lighting & repairs).
It is important for new residents to call the city office to open a new water account and also for those moving out to close out their account. A final meter reading should be called in to ensure water usage is fairly charged.
Pet Licenses
City pet licenses cost $5 and valid for
three years. All pets living within the city limits should be licensed. City Directories Additional Harwood Area Telephone Directories are available for $4 at the City Office. Listings include residents in Reile’s Acres, Brooktree, Argusville and Harwood and the surrounding area.
City-wide rummage sales are sponsored by the Harwood Park Board and scheduled during May of each year. If you plan to have a sale, you can donate a small fee (usually $2) and the revenue is used to publish group media ads as funds allow. Your sale will then be placed on a site map and made available at the Cenex station for distribution the day of the sales. You will need to submit your name, address and a list of any larger items you want highlighted in the ads. For registration information, contact the City office or Park Board president.
Board of Equalization Hearings Property values are reviewed annually before certification to the County. The Board of Equalization hearings provide a forum for taxpayers to exercise their right to appear before the City Assessor and Board of Review to petition for reevaluation of their property assessment. Hearings are scheduled on the first Monday in May at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall prior to the regular council meeting.
Spring Thaw – Culverts To assist with drainage and help to get the spring melt out of town, residents are asked to clean out their culverts and remove any debris blocking flow that settles in over the winter. The city will take care of opening the main drains as needed. |
