Sump Pump Regulation

ATTENTION ALL RESIDENTS:  All sump pump discharge lines within the city must be running outside spring - fall.  One of the most important functions of sump pumps is to protect basements from flooding.  Heavy rains can overload the sanitary sewer collection system and lead to sewage backups because many people connect their sump pump discharge hose to the sanitary sewer that does not have the capacity to carry excess clear water.  When draining outdoors, water should not be drained into adjacent properties.  PLEASE do not flush diapers or other sanitary items down the sewer.
