American Legion Post #297

The first meeting was held at the Harwood School in October, 1955.  By 1969, donations raised enough to build the Legion Hall with help from a grant from the Cass County Memorial Fund.  The Legion was renamed to Richard E. Nelson Post #297, a Harwood native, in his memory after being killed in action in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 on the USS Arizona.

The Legion is open Wednesday-Saturday from 11 am - 1 am. They have darts, video games, pull tab gaming, Wii games and a big screen TV.  Harwood Seniors meet there the 2nd Monday of each month for their monthly lunch/meeting.  Legion member meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8:00 p.m.

Harwood American Legion Auxiliary

The Harwood American Legion Auxiliary is an invaluable aid to the Harwood American Legion Post #297 in its service and community work.

The Harwood American Legion Auxiliary meets 4 times per year.   We help with the Harwood Area Dinner in December, make deviled eggs for the buffalo feed, and serve the Memorial Day dinner in May.  We also sponsor high school junior girls for Girls State.  Poppies made by veterans are available in May for a donation.  The proceeds from the poppies go directly to assist veterans.

Our dues are $15.00 per year.  To become a member, one of your family members must have been in military service.  An associate membership is available for $5.00 for those who do not have any military connections.  Please check us out.

We meet at the Legion on the 3rd Tuesday at 7:30 during the months of September, November, March and May.
